Offering the Enchanting Beauty of Wagashi
ModuleX® was selected for a new store in Azabudai Hills opened by Suzukake, a long-standing Japanese confectioner based in Hakata with a history spanning over a century.
The store is designed as a space where customers can savor wagashi along with the interior ambiance. A broad showcase—the main feature of the store—is positioned along the interior passageway to make full use of its distinctive floor plan with entrances on both sides.
Using only ceiling-mounted lighting fixtures, we created an elaborate and harmoniously balanced lighting environment through our original lighting techniques and fixtures, fulfilling the client’s requests to “showcase the beauty of wagashi” and “cast soft, spatially harmonious light onto the walls.”
The overall luminance and illuminance balance of the space were designed using our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range® lighting design method to achieve a gentle fusion of light and materials.
In particular, we used our Filter Lighting Design® technology for the main showcase to precisely control the shape of the light. The lighting design highlights the exquisite and delicate appearance of the wagashi by only illuminating the areas necessary from positions that prevent customer shadows from falling on the display.
We used our original optical design technology for the wall lighting fixtures to achieve high uniformity while maintaining harmony with the surroundings, more clearly showcasing the texture of the materials together with soft, gentle light.
Furthermore, for the storefront wall adorned with serpentine stone, we applied an expressive method that captures the stone’s distinctive qualities in order to create a clear contrast with the other walls, further enriching the ambiance.
