ModuleX® was selected for Herbal Chinese STEAMAN, where the head chef––trained in French cuisine––offers a new style of Chinese dining built around the core concepts of steamed dishes and nouvelle chinoise.

The restaurant’s overall design and choice of materials embody its pursuit of creating new appeal and its own style by fusing the traditions of Chinese cuisine with the artistry of French cooking. The interior features contrasting materials—the natural warmth of calming bamboo along with the modern rigidity of stainless steel.
For the lighting plan, we applied our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range® lighting design method to express the optimal quality and presence of light for each material, and developed our proposal accordingly.

Upon entering, guests are immediately greeted by a curved open kitchen counter that evokes the sense of a live performance. To naturally draw the eye toward the counter, we suspended curved and linear lighting fixtures from the ceiling tracing the contours of the counter, and applied gradient lighting from the floor upward to illuminate the area under the counter.
We also incorporated downlights that apply our original optical design technology to control glare while remaining unseen, presenting the chefs at work even more vividly and enhancing the sense of live performance.

As the lighting plan centers on directly visible, neon-like illumination and our Gradation Lighting Design® method, we applied ModuleX®Controls to adjust the luminance balance throughout the day, taking into account the psychological effects on guests during their visit.
During the day, the brightness is set slightly higher to harmonize with the natural light streaming in through the windows. After sunset, the overall luminance balance is lowered to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere where guests can enjoy their meals in comfort, while maintaining sufficient illumination on the tables.
