A refined space shaped by the contrast of light and time
ModuleX® was selected for Sasaguri Roastery, a coffee shop on a small hill near Sasaguri Station in the mountains of Fukuoka.
“We invite you to savor to your heart’s content a rich, aromatic experience that is only available here.”
Guided by this vision, the venue’s lighting environment centers on the shop area designed for comfort. The ever-changing natural light streaming through large windows fuses with the uniform, utilitarian lighting needed for roasting operations. To unify these elements into a single, cohesive space, we proposed a lighting plan that applies our original Static Lighting Design® technique to create an atmosphere of serene, changeless beauty.
Arranging downlights in a consistent pattern across the gridded ceiling in the shop area creates a sense of visual order, while keeping the lighting fixtures themselves unobtrusive. We struck a balance between luminance and illuminance by using gradient lighting for the symbolic central ceiling feature, complemented by our decorative fixtures—MOTIF BESPOKE and Collections—incorporated throughout the interior.
Furthermore, combining changes in natural light with our ModuleX® Controls environmental control technology gives the shop space a distinct atmosphere that shifts from day to night.
During the day, the lighting from three distinct areas fuses to form a unified, refined space. At night, deliberately introducing shadows between the various areas to divide the space around the iconic central counter creates a calm, composed atmosphere that accentuates the individuality of each zone.
Actively leveraging the effects of changes in natural light––a passive element––produces variations in the shop’s atmosphere over the passage of time.
