How light can benefit spaces where people gather and connect

ModuleX® was selected for Bar sasa, operated in Fukuoka City by IILS., an architecture and interior design firm based in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo.

As a new business venture, IILS. is involved in every aspect of the bar’s operation, from interior and exterior design, furniture, displays, and tableware selection through to creation of the brand logo and development of the food and drink menu. Its aim is “to create a venue and actively build a community from it.”

We developed the lighting plan using our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range® lighting design method, carefully examining exactly where light was needed and in what intensity in order to make the U-shaped counter table at the heart of the establishment the focal point for “people to gather and connect.”

Decorative lighting fixtures bring a sense of ornateness to the space, while bottle racks fitted with linear light sources add depth. Discreet spotlights highlight the counter table using our original optical control technology, balancing dramatic effect with practical functionality.

Furthermore, glass blocks are incorporated into the storefront, with light and shadow spilling out between the arranged plants to convey the lively atmosphere of the interior to those outside.

We also fine-tuned the luminance and illuminance to suit each time of day using our original ModuleX® Controls environmental control technology, creating a space where guests can enjoy time either sharing daily experiences or quietly reflecting on their own.
